Doris Marie Moro

October 29, 1929 - March 12, 2020

Doris Marie (McDaniel) Moro entered peacefully into eternal rest on March 12, 2020. She was 90 years of age. Born and raised in Florida, Doris met John C. Moro, Sr. when he was stationed at Whiting Field NAS outside of Milton, Florida. The two were married in January 1949. They moved to New Jersey to be with John’s family in 1950. She resided in Hamilton for 67 years. A loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend, Doris is predeceased by her husband John, her parents William Clarence and Thelma McDaniel, her sisters Faye Christian and Deloice Freeman, her grandson, Joseph Cosmo Moro, and numerous family and friends.

The center of Doris’ life was always and forever her family. She will be missed by many, but most of all by her five children and their spouses: Linda and Mark Richardson, John and Bonnie Moro, Cosmo and Shirley Moro, Julia and Ray McManamon, Susan and Albert Sbarro. Also left to cherish her memory are her 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

After raising her family, Doris held several part time jobs. By far, her favorite position was as an assistant in the YMCA before school care program, first at Langtree School and then at Kisthardt School, where many of the children simply called her “Grandmom”. She worked for the YMCA until she was 81 years old.

She loved sitting with a cup of tea and spending time with family and friends. She loved reading and was a frequent visitor to the Public Library. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing Yahtzee and Scrabble, and watching game shows. She took many trips to Atlantic City and was well known for her good luck at the Joker Poker slot machines.

Doris was a loyal and giving friend and neighbor. She was known for her kind heart and gentle spirit. A woman of great faith, she was a devoted member of Holy Angels Parish (now St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish) where she served as a lector and eucharistic minister of Holy Communion.

The family is grateful to the many people who cared for Doris during her final days, especially the nursing staff and caregivers of Atrium Senior Living and Nursing Home at Princeton and the wonderful hospice team of VITAS Healthcare of Mt. Laurel, NJ.
