September 2, 1937 - March 13, 2021
Marie A. (known by many of her close family and friends as Nancy) Butterfield, 83,
of Ewing, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the team of outstanding professionals who cared for and treated her as if she were family: Dr. Sahismy Kudakachira and Nurse Roslyn from Capital Health Mountainview; her personal aide, Pam Persichilli, who loved and cared for her at home, the dedicated team at Preferred Care/Hamilton: Lydia from Social Services, Janet from Activities, Nurses Bart, Colleen, Mary, Lisa and Shelby and Kindred Hospice Care.
Born in Trenton, she was a resident of Ewing Twp. for the past 60 years. She
graduated from Cathedral High School in 1954 with top honors. With her
exemplary grades she was eligible to go to college, but instead elected to start a career and raise a family. She began her career at Trenton Trust Bank in the Bookkeeping Department and
later joined Tiger Distributors, Inc. as a bookkeeper, working with her sister in
law, Jean.
Nancy was a member of our Lady of Good Counsel Church, attending regular
Mass and sang in the Church Choir. Nancy enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and had a special affection for cardinals. She collected many of the Boehm pottery birds and displayed them
beautifully in her home. She also loved to watch the deer, fox, raccoons and
other animals visit the yard. When the outside lights went on in the evening, she
and her husband, Rick, were often treated to the most interesting of wildlife
shows!
Nancy loved music, especially Josh Groban and saw him perform live many times.
She loved to sing while she cleaned house and making her windows sparkle. She also loved listening to Andre Bocelli and knew all the musical show tunes by heart. At family gatherings, she and Jean Nolan would often break into song to entertain the family!
Nancy also enjoyed sports, and in her younger days loved to play tennis with her
friend Joan in Cadwallader park. When she wasn’t playing tennis, she enjoyed
riding on the back of her husband Rick’s red motorcycle, joined often by friends.
In her later years, she spent much time reading. James Mitchener, James Patterson (she read every of his books) and John Grisham. Her love of reading was shared with others as well through tutoring children at Blessed Sacrament Church. Nancy also loved to play cards with her husband Rick, daughter Barbara and her sister in law Jean.
Nancy was an avid sports fan. She loved to watch her beloved Philadelphia Flyers
and had her own Flyers symbol on the passenger side of her husband’s van.
Despite being a NJ Devils fan, her husband Rick graciously carved Flyers signs to
display outside their home (next to, of course a NJ Devils sign!). Nancy also loved watching tennis. She rarely missed watching the Grand Slam matches and her knowledge of the players, their styles and the sport were exceptional.
Nancy is predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Stella (Micai) Lanzoni. She is
survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Richard J. Butterfield, Sr.; a son
Richard J. Butterfield, Jr. and his wife Lisa; a daughter Barbara DeLucia and her
husband Anthony; a sister-in-law, Jean Nolan, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. She will also be missed by her dear friends, Lillian and Bill, from Arizona.
Due to Covid 19, funeral services were held privately for the immediate family
under the direction of the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes. A celebration of life
ceremony honoring Nancy will be announced at a later date.
Donations can be made in Nancy’s honor to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, St. Jude’s Hospital for Children and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
